In January 2005 we visited the abandoned psychiatric hospital in Whitby. It has since been destroyed to make way for a plot of monster homes.

I had just bought a camera and wanted to try it out. We found the old asylum filled with all kinds of remnants, including someone's collection of vinyl record albums, with titles like "LOVE ME OR MY DREAM IS GONE".

We also found patient's medical records, along the typewriters used to produce them, strewn about on the floors.

And we encountered a truly strange sight in one of the old bathtubs: beautiful red flower petals that somehow had kept fresh in the January cold.

It was a shock to see the bright petals and ash so near to the black rope and strands of white electrical tape.

There was also a load of unexposed film stock nearby. I unwound some and dropped it onto the powdery snow that was everywhere in the building. It's the last shot in the video, because the discovery of the film pointed to something truly sinister.
